What’s in a Name?

March 14, 2012

Seriously, what’s in a name? I make bank transfers  (even thru mobile device), use my credit card, file my taxes, look at my credit report and more online but I can’t change my name!

Let me clarify that I am a traditionalist and would like to have my husbands last name (sort of :-). Though, I am going to miss using the term “Holy Flower” (Saint-Fleur).  That piece of paper we proudly received making it official wasn’t fully the whole deal. Unfortunately, getting my new name on the marriage license isn’t enough.

The process:
  • Original Marriage License
  • Social Security Office
  • DMV
  • Bank
After making those trips above:
  • Credit Cards
  • Voter Registration
  • Passport (keeping my old one 🙂
  • Post Office
  • Insurance and more!
This is how far my name change has made it:

Whether I change to Makerbie Rema or Makerbie St.Fleur-Rema, point is that I wish I didn’t have to make trips to certain offices to make it official.  With that said, I have no choice…sigh!

Invite Dabbling…pt 2

February 6, 2012

Before I continue, I need to revisit a few old posts and make clarifications.
I wrote a post about building the wedding website (here & here), which was a major headache!!! But I knew in order to customize the website to my needs/look I needed to build it myself. One of the main reasons it was important for me to have the website was for RSVPs (I will show you how it looked in another post).
Why?
•                I could save on postage and paper.
•                I didn’t want cards being mailed back to me.
•                It was easier to track and keep a guest list
•                I didn’t have to guess who was having what for their meal (I customized the site in a manner where all that information would be listed in a spreadsheet, thank you Google!)
My mother stated I couldn’t do it in that manner because not everyone had a computer or was familiar with it. My response everyone knows someone that has access to a computer 🙂 issue solved!!
Now you understand why I was giving myself a headache over the website, it wasn’t only for informational purposes or for people to leave well wishes; it had a bigger purpose.
Moving on back to the invitations, from the last post I showed pictures of the first draft and how it still did not fit my vision. Back to the drawing board and thinking of a way it would incorporate the theme and this was the end result:

With a pocket behind the invitation, I had 3 inserts (RSVP information, directions & hotel accommodations) that looked like mini-boarding passes.
Travel theme was on its way!!

Blindsided

This year started off with a blessing as I birthed my precious third baby. Two months later I find myself hospitalized for sickle cell crisis not once but twice. I never deemed myself a sickle cell warrior as I grew up watching my other sisters deal with this disease a lot worse than I ever […]

Fear in Vulnerability

I recently shared on instagram some personal trials. I stated it was a long, vulnerable transparent post; which it was! I originally came on here (the blog) to paste the post so it could be available on most of my platforms but I was inclined to post about fear in vulnerability instead.  I contemplated for […]
