Invite dabbling…pt 1

January 23, 2012

It’s a given that the wedding invitation sets the tone for what guests should expect, with that in mind I browsed on different ideas of what I wanted to include on the invitation and the look of it. We both agreed black-tie formal didn’t fit our personalities, we wanted a semi-formal fun event.

First we decided on wording for the invitations, which was harder to decide upon than we thought.

Runner-up:

                              Life is not measured
                          by the number of breaths
we take, but by moments that
                             take our breath away
                        Mr. and Mrs. Max St.Fleur
                             ask you to join them
                              as their daughter
                              Makerbie St.Fleur
                       gives her hand in marriage
                                           to
                                Joshua Rema

                      Son of Ms. Carmeline Rema
                                  (date & time)
                                     (location)
                                    (address)

Loved it but a little too formal!

Winner:
You work, you play
and then one day…
love just happens!
Makerbie St.Fleur
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max St.Fleur
and
Joshua Rema
son of Ms. Carmeline Rema
invite you to be a witness
to one of life’s loveliest
surprises
as they are joined together in
matrimony
on (date & time)
at (time)
(location & address)

By this point, I already had an idea as to how I wanted the invitation to look. But a vision doesn’t always turn out the same during the execution phase however, I still dabbled with the different ideas I had.

I looked for pictures that I thought would fit with the theme, because I felt water-marking an image in the background would sort of set the tone.

I really loved image #5 but it didn’t look to good behind the text. I ended up using image #1 on the website and image #2 on the card.

Here is a sample of the drafts for the inserts:

I felt something was still missing, the damask was pretty but not part of the theme. In next post I will go into further details, then it will be the invitation reveal.

Thank You for Dreaming…

January 16, 2012

& Living the Dream!

Source

Thank you Dr. King for being a part of changing the views of others on justice, love, human purpose and for seeking equality amongst all.  You also demonstrated that change can be done in a non-violent manner. You are now dead longer than you lived but within that life you have created such a change which allowed others to dream even bigger, including myself. For this I want to THANK YOU!

“When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!” (“I have a dream” speech)

Name in Lights (part 2)

January 16, 2012

Okay, I won’t do anything just to get my name in lights but I certainly worked on getting my name in lights.
Several months ago I wrote a post about drafting the logo for our wedding (here). Soon after I chose a theme for the wedding (which I will discuss further in another post); from that point I knew I wanted to input characters/signs in the logo.

First I thought about a lantern
Then I decided upon the Korean characters “I love you”
I put those same characters in a scroll to see what I can come up with, but it wasn’t working for me.
I basically played around with different designs but in the end I knew I wanted our initials to be part of the final look.  In the end I decided to go with no designs around the logo but simply our initials and Korean characters.  I tried completing the task myself in Publisher which turned out fine but if I needed to enlarge, the picture (pixels) was blurry so I sent each file (initials & characters) to Cynthia from Elizabeth Couture and she embedded the letters in the image.
I used the monogram on the invitations, as a back drop for the reception, and other wedding items to add a personal touch.

I used the “Edwardian Script” font for the initials.
Wait till you see how else I incorporated the monogram 🙂

Blindsided

This year started off with a blessing as I birthed my precious third baby. Two months later I find myself hospitalized for sickle cell crisis not once but twice. I never deemed myself a sickle cell warrior as I grew up watching my other sisters deal with this disease a lot worse than I ever […]

Fear in Vulnerability

I recently shared on instagram some personal trials. I stated it was a long, vulnerable transparent post; which it was! I originally came on here (the blog) to paste the post so it could be available on most of my platforms but I was inclined to post about fear in vulnerability instead.  I contemplated for […]
